St. Andrews
Wow. It has been a while, eh? Sorry about that! Let me try to recap on everything I've done since I last wrote..
Everything has been wonderful still. A couple of homesickness phases but they come and go as I assumed they may. One Saturday my friends Madeleine, Selby, Alice, Lauren and I took the train for a day trip to St. Andrews. The town is so cute.
It almost reminded me of Oxford. It was small, very easy to get around, quaint, cobblestone streets, and had a godd college town feel to it (in a Scotland sort of way, not like a football sort of way.) Once you walk a little always for the center of town, you approach the golf course, which is as beautiful as everyone says! Fortunately it was a sunny, too!
It's so green (as is everything in Scotland anyway), and hills and sand traps lie ahead while the beach rests at its side with few crashing waves.
In the distance you can see more ocean and mountains and it is just gorgeous. If I played golf, I'd sure be in heaven (except for the MASSIVE sand traps!! They were like none other). After walking along the golf course for a while, we then visited the British Golf Museum, which was actually very interesting! Then, we walked around the rest of the town, where we saw the ruins of an old castle which was pretty cool.
There were some "must go-tos" that we attempted to hit but missed a few.. We did go to a recommended ice cream shop called B. Jannetta Gelataria, which was of course great.. (there only so many ways to go wrong with ice cram) I had a scoop of Ferrero Rocher ice cream--ahh soo good... Do you know the candy I'm talking about? (it's a ball..The sweets consist of a whole roasted hazelnut encased in a thin wafer shell filled with hazelnut cream and covered in milk chocolate and chopped hazelnuts and walnuts.) Anyway, a delicious choice. And then we were suppose to find these wonderful fudge doughnuts but apparently they sell out super fast and we were only 8 hours late getting there in time, so sadly we missed that but bought some millionaire shortbread instead ;) We then went to a Thai restaurant. (my 1st time to eat Thai food!) Lauren has a friend from Scotland and her friend's friend worked there so we got a discount, which is always good, especially considering 1.00 pound =1.48755 USD, which I think is actually better than when I got here! I think when i got here, it was about 1.7 or 1.6? Still, it makes a huge difference either way.. So anyway, I had pad thai which is a normal thai dish and it was great.
